  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'm rotating round the SSE IT teams. Currently I am part of the smart meter testing team. I attend weekly meetings for updates on the smart meter systems and Simulate the different jobs that a meter might have to run

  • I have learnt how to test the workings of smart meters

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The team is friendly and will help me out anywhere I need help, This reflects SSE's culture of everyone being one family and helping each other out when we can. This creates a friendly atmosphere and makes the course enjoyable

  • I get recognition for the work that I do and the teams value the work that I put in and help them with

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is well organised. I have a plan for what teams I will be in for the next 4 years and we have regular meetings with the head of the program to discus how we are finding the program.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We have a tutor who we can ask for help anytime we need it. We can also go to the lecturer and ask for help and advice when we need it

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We have tutors at work who we can go to for help at any time and they will either help us or point us in the direction of someone who can help. Furthermore, we can ask any member of our teams for help on anything we have been assigned to complete and they will help us.

  • My salary meets all of my current expenses with a nice amount of expendable income left over.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There is a scheme where we can volunteer at charity events during work time (so the event counts as a day at work). There are many events listed for many charities so you can always find an event that you will enjoy

  • 9. Would you recommend SSE to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The company has an amazing atmosphere and will teach you a lot about IT in a business environment.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
  • Having prior experience in IT will always help you out. Be confident at the assessment centres, the assessors will be kind and try to help you along the process, the main things they are looking for is confidence, a willingness to learn and a interest in IT.
