  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the culture and freindliness of the company and the teams I have worked with are helpful, supportive, caring and encouraging. They make learning about the work and then carrying out the work a complete pleasure and easier to make the transition from college to full time employment.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by SSE?
  • I feel very valued. My opinion matters, I know this as we frequently have opportunities to influence projects within SSE and we are encouraged to help with the future Degree Apprentices and enable them to have the best experience possible - Both at work and at university.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is extremely well organized, with the occasional slip of internal team organization, however after the first initial week in a new rotation the pace picks up and you feel part of the team. The programme is possible to tailor to our own wishes where deemed valuable to the business and this is great for gaining experience where you want to.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We are provided with amazing support, Desk assessments, specialist chair forms, occupational health advisement. We even get a personal mentor whom we can discuss and disclose any information with. This helps to make me feel more comfortabole with the variety of medical problems i suffer from - I also feel encouraged to speak out and seek help, SSE want what's best for my health. This is also replicated at University with personal tutors and disability advisory support.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I'm able to save nicely whilst also earning a salary, I live with my parents still but pay them rent. Our salary increases over the course of the 4 years as we gain more experience within the business organization. We earn more than other Degree Apprentice schemes offer as I looked into many when applying and SSE has the best wage to offer us.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many opportunities outside of work. There are training courses to aid work and even community days which are paid to help give back time to our local communities. Helping out with the application processes for the new Degree Apprentice intake has also been encouraged. Which provides a nice sense of belonging and being able to support those that are in the same place that we were last year when applying.

  • 9. Would you recommend SSE to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • SSE is an amazing opportunity and it provides so many benefits for future development and going to Uni or doing a standard apprenticeship is woth nothing in comparison to doing both at once, in a caring, understanding, safe environment that SSE has to offer!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
  • Be yourself. As long as you act honestly and just be yourself then SSE can't fault you. They want people who are open minded, open to challenges and those that can bring new ideas and ways of thinking into an everchanging, evergrowing business.
