My day to day jobs change depending on what area I am currently in, for example I was recently in the drawing offices where my day to day jobs would be working with 3D software to model 2D drawings for people and get them onto the system electronically. I was recently working on a CR with a change request where someone had asked for multiple parts to be designed and assembled, I simply modeled the parts and assembled different parts and made each part into a different drawing which has dimensions.
So far I have a much better understanding of engineering drawings and how to make my own drawings, this has also given me the ability to go through and check over drawings for any errors.
I very much enjoy this programme, it has already helped me develop a lot of new skills but has also helped me develop as a person due to the different environment that I know work in. It's a very enjoyable scheme as you are always doing something new at work thanks to having rotations in different parts of the company which helps you get a better understanding of the company and lets you meet lots of new people as at the same time.
You get a lot of appreciation from this work, from managers and other employees due to the many people that you work with. You get reviews at the end of each placement which is a chance to reflect on how well you did and what areas you excelled and where you can improve for the future. We also have a big apprentice awards night every year where all apprentices are invited along to have a night about them, and awards are given out to them along with rewards for how well they have done.
You can tell a lot of thought has gone into this before you've started due to what they have planned for you to do right from the very start. Straight away you start a qualification, once you have this you then have a weeks of different training on site to help develop different skills and things that will be essential to you. Then you start working and you can get 7 weeks in different areas.
You get as much support as you need here, our manager is always more than happy to spare time and sit down and have a chat about anything whether it is work related or not, you also get a mentor where you can talk to them at any point about work as they have been here a couple of years and having weekly or monthly catch ups just to see how you are doing and if they can offer any help to you.
Our employer is always willing to help and has already given us a lot of support throughout our time here so far, he's always up for catch up or if you are having any problems you can always drop by his office and have a chat or send an email if you prefer and arrange something. He also comes and does a review for an hour with you at the end of the placement to hear how you have done before you start your next placement.
The salary for my age is more than enough for me currently, I have a car that i'm very happy with, I pay my rent, phone bill and then move some to savings and have more than enough to look after myself for the rest of the month. Thanks to this wage I got the car I really wanted and the newest phone and have enough to go out during the day and have fun and not worry and enough money to put aside to save up for something bigger such as a holiday.
We do a few things outside of work, for example we go to schools and do a little challenge with the kids and to make them aware of the company in the process, but it also gives the kids the chance to have fun and be imaginative with whatever the challenge is at the time.
Yes
I think it's a good place to go to after school/college and learn new skills, you get a job at the end and you also have a income all at the same time.
Make sure to come to the open day to see what we do and talk to apprentices about there experiences at the company and then you can ask any questions about the scheme to the people who are currently doing it as we've all been through that process of applying.
