  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • E2v is a very large company where lots of things happen, a lot of my day to day it design work on cad but it also involves problem analysis and researching to develop systems. I am training to be an engineer this means I have to be able to problem solve solutions and come up with ideas and designs to overcome these problems.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am learning everyday, I go college 1 day a week studying for my HNC but I learn just as much in the work place, there are so many different process and products which all to different things. I also learn a lot about mechanical systems and electrical systems from my design work

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • A lot, not only am I working with very interesting products and systems I am working with a massively supportive group

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Teledyne/E2V?
  • Very valued, I am paid well and my degree is being funded so the company is investing a lot into me as a person and all the support given to me from around the company is brilliant as well.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well structured I was given a 5 year plan before I started showing exactly what I would be doing as regards to my studies and what I would be doing in the company.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The training provider isn't bad, it is an outside college and they get the job done, most of the teachers are competent and the college is very local.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As much as I want, my manager is always available to talk to, I have a mentor which is an older apprentice and I also always have a line manager in my place of work to assist me day to day.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Very well, I have to commute in every day and I can easily afford that, The wage is very generous and I can afford rent food and a car still with money left to go into savings and for spending. There is also a yearly pay review.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a lot of apprentices working at the company (~50) so there is always an opportunity to socialise with others and there also lots of events that are held my other employees which are normally advertised on the intranet.

  • 9. Would you recommend Teledyne/E2V to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • A very supportive place to work while to start learning about engineering. And not only are you getting invaluable work experience your getting paid to learn.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Teledyne/E2V?
  • Be honest, be interesting, be professional. The application process isn't just about your grades it's a lot about your personality. You have to be able to learn, you have to be confident and most importantly, enjoy what your are doing!
