  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • in my role I work between 3d design and process engineering for the space imaging department of Teledyne e2v. in this role I look to improve and simplify the build process of new devices, more specifically for bespoke projects

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been able to develop still in design. more specifically software, such as inventor and autocad. I have also been able to learn how 3d printing can aid the design and manufacture within a cleanroom environment. away from design I have been trained in 8D and sixsigma to help me with improving projects within process engineering

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • the practical real world experience I have gained in the engineering sector, which I wouldn't have gained from university.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Teledyne/E2V?
  • I feel now I have been valued at e2v. especially as I have had a tailored scheme set up for me to take me through my degree as well as gaining management experience.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • very, as the scheme has been running for many years it has been well established. also as they are always looking to improve it means the scheme is vary dynamic in its approach to adopting new training opportunities for the apprentices

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • the college has specifically set up the hnc cause to work with Greenwich university to make the degree take 5 years part time. this support and the structure their I have found to be good.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received training throughout level 3 and now on to hnc, hnd and degree. I have also received training that supports my role i.e. cad training. I have found Teledyne e2v to be very supportive in the last 4 years as well as the fact they are still supporting me now.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • for an apprenticeship I have found it to be similar to others in the area. also as I have moved to a new training scheme they have guaranteed our pay rises for the next 5 years. this I have found is more than some other companies can offer.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • the scheme aim to get apprentice involved in as much as possible. such as the brathay apprentice challenge as well as a number of team building events in work. the scheme has also pushed to get apprentices involved with stem events and supporting local schools to promote the apprenticeship root.

  • Yes

  • because of the training I have received during my time at e2v. I would recommend the company to anyone looking at pursuing a career in engineering.

  • give the best overview to you as possible, especially in the cover letter stage of the application. furthermore actually research the company as it is one of the first things we ask in an interview @what do you know about Teledyne e2v'
