  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a mechanical maintenance engineering apprentice I spend 3 months in each department within the factory shadowing a technician and learning about the manufacturing process as well as maintenance techniques. In my final year I will be placed permanently in a department.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I am learning new skills every day, the first year of the apprenticeship is based at a training school who provide all of the basic skills for you to build on throughout the apprenticeship within the factory.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship, it is a great place to work at Nestle and the engineering team are very friendly and approachable if I have any questions or if I am struggling.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Nestle?
  • I feel very valued by Nestle, we have regular reviews to assess our engineering competence and the feedback is very positive and makes me feel valued to the company.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship has a very well organised structure. The first year is spent at the training school learning all the basic skills you require to be an engineer, then in the second and third year you spent time in the factory in each department while attending college one day a week then in the final year you are placed in a department permanently.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There is support available from the training provider whenever it is required, we have regular reviews at the factory but also have contact details if we need to speak to someone between these times.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There are various support functions within the factory for different issues, most issues can be sorted by my line manager but the HR team are also easily accessible is required.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary as a Nestle apprentice is very good, when comparing to other apprenticeships available Nestle is very near the top in apprentice salaries.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are always various different activities which get offered to employees with discounted ticket prices for events in the area as well as a discounted gym membership for a local gym in the area.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Nestle offers a great apprenticeship package all round with a great salary and the option to go as far as you want in terms of qualifications.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nestle?
  • Don't be put off if you have no previous engineering experience, you get your engineering training as part of the apprenticeship. What the company are looking for are personal attributes such as pride in your work, passion and enthusiasm for engineering.
