Automation Engineering Apprenticeship Review

I am an Automation Engineering apprentices. My job role consists of compiling and performing software changes on the manufacturing plant in response to projects, safety actions or continuous improvement work generated by myself and my colleagues. I am responsible for the maintenance and running of the overall control system day to day.

Yes, I have learned and gained experience in business and how industry works. I have learned how to write and modify code, how to do a change and the procedures that you must adhere to when changing code. I have also learned what the Pharma industry is governed by and how this affects peoples day to day roles.

My programme is very aligned and specific to myself and I found it very interesting. It has given me the tools to go onto further education and has also assisted in my on the job learning. The on the job training has also been very valuable and I have learned from professionals in the business.

I feel valued by GSK and my thoughts are taken into account in meetings. People listen to me and I feel they have accepted me into the various teams across the site. I am also confident in speaking up and am empowered to do so by the values we live by.

My programme has a clear steer and purpose. The courses at college are aligned to my job role and the on the job training teaches me how these principles learned at college actually fit into the real world. The on the job training is clearly laid out to understand the business in its entirety.

My training provider provided support throughout my apprenticeship to ensure all college work was completed and that I did the best I could throughout the course. They have also allowed flexibility throughout to ensure I got the most out of the courses as possible through the entirety of the course.

I have received a lot of support from my employer and more specifically my department and line manager. They have provided me with all of the tools I require to perform at the highest level in my day to day role and have shown me how I can improve which is also key to learning.

My salary has always been suffice and allowed me to do lots f things while working with GSK. The share schemes and pension schemes are he best around and allow you to quickly accumulate savings through your apprenticeship. This is another way GSK sets you up well for the future.

Throughout the apprenticeship I have always been developing to. I won the Brathay apprentice challenge back in 2017 and have been on countless trips away within the UK for development opportunities. This was all paid for by GSK and organised well. This has also taught me a lot about how t deal with the world of industry.

GSK has given me a really good start to my career and I have gained qualifications that are valuable for my career. I would say GSK have the best benefits package around and this allows you to be set financially for the future. I would also say that GSK have the best professionals too which allows you to learn form the best in the business.

I would say give it your all and embrace the GSK values. The values are engrained into you form day 1 and you can use these even outside of work. You should embrace every opportunity GSK throws at you and this will help you develop as a person and as a professional.
