  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As assistant manager for pubs I am responsible for all of the day to day running of the business. Front of house and back of house, I run shifts deal with cash, complaints, invoices, payroll etc.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed a better understanding of motivating and dealing with members of staff to achieve a better way of working and keep the team happy. I've also learnt new business terminology and a better understanding of my industry.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I found the programme beneficial and it worked around my busy work and home schedule.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Greene King?
  • In my actual place of work I feel valued but as a whole I don't feel such a large company really cares about staff as their turnover is so high. I have seeked help from higher up at greene king a couple of times and felt ignored.

  • It was extremely well organised, my trainer kept me up to date and informed and we were in constant communications about my work and our next meetings.

  • My trainer offered me full support, even through a job change she was helpful.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have been with 2 different managers during this programme, my first was not very supportive at all and the second tried to be a lot more, still not great though.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My pay is okay for my job role, it is not a lot but that is because I live in one of the most expensive cities in the U.K. !

  • Not sure I understand the question - opportunities for what exactly ?

  • 9. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • No


  • 9b. Why?
  • I think that although you have job security as they are such a large company, this is also a bad factor as large companies see staff as more easily replaceable.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Make sure you know your rights and if you have any grievances, don't be silenced. Speak to the appropriate people and make yourself known to your area/ regional managers.
