  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am the team's "Production IT Support Coordinator" and I liaise with the productions in order to establish what their IT requirements are. I provide them with telephony, networking and audio visual assistance where required. I also liaise with the other departments onsite i.e. Studio Bookings, Studio Ops, Facilities etc. in order to provide these services. When a new production starts, I ensure their network is set up and commissioned in the area that they will be moving into. I also ascertain the number of phones they require and ensure these are set up in readiness prior to them starting. I also install services (phones, Wireless APs, switches) in temporary structures e.g. portacabins and marquees, to enable the production users to work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I feel I have developed my communication skills as my job requires me to communicate with users on a daily basis regarding different IT matters/requirements. I have also learnt and developed my knowledge with networking and intermediary devices through doing my Cisco qualification at college, and also by working here onsite. I have also learnt now to use a variety of ticketing systems e.g. Service Now, VeraSMART, Avaya Site Administration.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much enjoy the team I work with as we all get along very well. My colleagues have been very helpful with regard to my progress within the team and with my college work. The people who work within the company are absolutely great and it feels like a family environment working here. I also really enjoy my job and my responsibilities within my role, which is to ensure the productions are able to work efficiently and communicate with their fellow departments.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by WarnerMedia?
  • I feel like my manager is very supportive of my wanting to progress within the team, by the fact that we discuss this in our biweekly one to ones. He is willing to help me widen my knowledge by putting me in challenging situations, that of which I will benefit from greatly. I also get a lot of appreciation and recognition by the productions for the amount I do for them and the lengths I have gone to help/assist them.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I felt it was pretty well structured. When I started, I got a tour of the workplace, met the other departments and I spent some time with each of my colleagues to gain a bit of an understanding of their individual job roles. I have been given training in various different areas e.g. Safety Use of Ladders & Step Ladders, Toolbox Talks, Driving and use of our buggy. I was allowed a day a week to spend at college to help me complete my coursework. I also did Cisco in the afternoons which went towards me completing my college course. I had multiple support meetings with my managers and training advisor to ensure that I was up to date with my college work. They also liked to check in about my general day to day responsibilities to ensure that I wasn't doing too much or more than I could handle.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My college tutor was helpful when I got stuck with various tasks and we also arranged a couple of onsite visits, in order for her to assist me with what I had left to complete. Sometimes it was a bit difficult to gauge when I would receive work back and whether the work I had submitted was enough to pass the criteria. I felt this caused a few set backs with regard to the length in time it took for me to complete my course.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received a lot of help and guidance with my general day to day jobs and my college work. My colleagues have always been more than happy and willing to help me whenever I got stuck on something. They also helped me whenever my workload became a little too much for me to do alone. I felt I was very well looked after, especially, by my HR Team Mentor. She was very keen to know how I was progressing within the team and how I was finding my work load. She was also extremely helpful when it came to getting my college work done and was always willing to help me out if I needed it. We also had regular catch ups which made me feel cared for as she really took an interest in my general wellbeing and progression with the apprenticeship course as a whole.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I felt my salary was very good for an Apprentice. I was able to find somewhere local to relocate and it wasn't too costly either. This place was also pretty close to work so I didn't need to travel far in the morning/evening.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • They are lots of opportunities and activities that I am able to partake in outside of work. Also, given the fact that I am based in Watford, this gives me an advantage with travelling into London as I am only a 20 minute train journey away. This in turn has allowed me to gain a lot of social experience without having to travel too far or spend too much money doing it. We also plan team outings which comprise a group activity followed by food, or sometimes just a team meal of an evening.

  • 9. Would you recommend WarnerMedia to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely recommend a friend to apply to work at Warner Bros. because it is such a fun, lively and upbeat place to work. Everyone knows everyone so it's a good place to get to know a lot of people. Given the nature and the size of the business here, there is always lots to do and I find I am never left sitting at my desk doing nothing of a day. I have also found that every day is very different from the next which makes it all the more exciting.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WarnerMedia?
  • Definitely do your research before applying and ensure you are fully aware of the job and business you are working for, as you need to be fully committed when here! Be inquisitive, interested and ask lots of questions to show eagerness and willing - that's what my team loved about me on my assessment day. It would also be good to show prior initiative by partaking in courses to aid your knowledge and capabilities for that position/job role. This will show a genuine interest for the job you are applying for and a desire to learn more and progress within that field.
