  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently in my first year, therefore I am undergoing skills training. One day a week I go to university to do my sponsored degree, then for the rest of the week I'll perform an engineering activity, e.g. turning and produce parts to company standard. Also will have meetings with my aligned business I will progress into to set me up for my transition into the business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Undergone a variety of internal courses developing me as a person. Several engineering qualifications, Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Foundation and Bachelors degree. Performing Engineering Operations Level 2 and NVQ Level 4

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Work is always interesting as you have different tasks to complete which are never the same that involve completely different skills. Have a great team around me to support and enjoy the day and have a company culture which is all about getting the best out of you. It has gone far above my expectations and is thoroughly enjoyable.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Rolls-Royce?
  • Highly as they feel we are the future therefore they push us to be our best by making us welcome in the company.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Clear structure, with everything you have to achieve set out in front of you so that you know exactly what you have to do. Weeks are organised into a training plan for you.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • University of Derby is lacking in its support with faults in its recently new programme. Rolls-Royce internal training is however tried and tested and gives you everything you need to achieve.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • ADL (Apprentice Development Leader) is there to guide you and is very accessible.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • More than covers my lifestyle and have no problems with costs, however there are significant rises in pay as you progress through the apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Can go to many STEM events with Rolls-Royce to inspire others into engineering. There is an apprentice and graduate association that puts on many events weekly that everyone wants to take part in.

  • Yes

  • You'll be working in one of the best engineering companies in the world, that has a wealth of knowledge to never stop you being awe-inspired. You'll be highly valued in a company where you can go as far as you want.
