  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is project management, I currently work in a cost team and tasks include writing business cases for potential cost saving initiatives. This involves doing the budgeting and working out the cost benefit for these projects. I'm also involved in finding new opportunities to reduce costs and working with relevant stakeholders to action these opportunities.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt key project management competencies which by the end of my scheme I will have a foundation degree and NVQ aligned to project management. I have developed my existing skills in communication and interpersonal skills. I've received training in planning and risk.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy the programme the fact it is very diverse and allows me to experience different areas of the company through moving placements ever 6 months. All teams have been very helpful and supportive throughout my apprenticeship and the work has allowed me to gain confidence in my skills and have responsibility for projects.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Rolls-Royce?
  • I feel very valued during my time within Rolls Royce I have been trusted with real responsibility on projects and my efforts and achievements during projects have always been recognised and praised upon.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured well with having 6, 6 month placements, having a day release each week for university works well to keep on top of studies. I have regular reviews with my apprentice development leader to raise any concerns. The NVQ also ensures each placement is enhancing our PM competencies.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • In relation to university, I feel this could be improved as sometimes the tutors aren't able to answer particular questions. I feel the university course is elongated out and could be condensed to a shorter time period.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My apprentice development leader is always on hand to support and we have regular reviews meetings. Any concerns my ADL will support and help resolve. Also my managers throughout my apprenticeship have all supported me through tasks and meeting NVQ evidence.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I currently live at home therefore the salary does allow me to afford all my travel, daily and social costs. However feel if I was paying for living costs money would be more of an issue/

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There is an apprentice association that plans different events each year which I've taken part in i.e. charity balls and Christmas parties. Ability to do STEM activities at schools.

  • 9. Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Great company to work for who really look after their apprentices. You get good opportunities to explore all the different areas of the business and get good responsibility on projects. Get a funded degree whilst getting a full time salary.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
  • Through the application show your passion for the company and make sure you do your research on what the company does. For the assessment day be yourself, show confidence and make sure you are fully prepared.
