Apprentice Fitter Review

I work for Rolls-Royce Inchinnan MRO and A&T. I am trainnig to be a mechanical fitter. Every three months I go into a new section in my work and learn the jobs. After learning the jobs I write up evidence that are sued to sign off my SVQ logs. Every Wednesday I go to college to do a HNC in Mechanical Engineering.

I have learn many practical skills such as bench fitting, milling, turning and other assembly skills through both college and my workplace. Rolls-Royce also put you through various internal education courses which help develop skills, such as safe driving, financial advise and using abrasive wheels.

I went to university for a year and didn't enjoy it but I very much enjoy the work dynamic of an apprenticeship, especially at Rolls-Royce.

Yes, recently the higher management have allowed the apprentices tot take part in designing new graphics for the factory as a way of allowing us to give our voice.

The SVQ and the college course is well structured. The course structure was explained fully to us before it took part to ensure we were well informed.

I receive lots of support from my college both practically and theoretically.

My support team is excellent at providing help to the apprentices. My ADL, Dave Fisher, is extremely helpful and provides plenty of support.

My salary is very good for an apprentice at this stage of development so I can live very comfortably.

Yes, there is an apprentice fund which can be used to fund activities such as dinners, paintball and other leisure activities.
