  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day responsibilities are to complete my part time foundation degree alongside my NVQ L2 PEO2 qualification. I also get involved with STEM work and volunteering on a regular but not day to day basis.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills such as machining and project management which has provided me with a good set of skills and experience that I can take into the business. I have had several opportunities to develop my existing skills and it has been good to share prior knowledge I have of certain areas.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I find the program interesting however I find a lot of the work is basic and teaching can often be delayed due to instructors teaching at a basic level. The foundation degree aspect is challenging and rewarding and will lead to progression within the field of engineering.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Rolls-Royce?
  • I feel my contributions are valued and my input is respected by Rolls-Royce however colleagues do not show support and are often involved in friend groups which are then difficult to interact with when completing work for the business.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation has been very lapse due to certain factors. I understand that this could be an anomaly and therefore I am not concerned by the chance of this continuing. However the program requires a reshuffle and a strong support and guidance network putting in place in regards to the PEO2 qualification.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The part time degree program support depends on the tutor, some tutors are excellent while others are not so good. I understand the degree program requires self learning however when issues have been raised they are often difficult to rectify due to the structure of the training provider.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive all the support I ask for. I have used the employee assistance program that is in operation and found that the organisation always provides a solution to my queries. I feel supported and know where to go if I need help.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is adequate however I feel there should be more incentive to want to work for Rolls-Royce. Other organisations offer considerably larger packages whilst offering the same qualifications.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are numerous activities and extra curricular opportunities outside of work. These range from sports clubs to societies and events organised by the apprentice and graduate association.

  • 9. Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Although there have been issues in my intake the opportunities to progress within your chosen field are numerous. There are multiple routes and options to progress with and ultimately provided the workload is met and the organisation has the requirements there will be a career option available.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
  • Ensure you acknowledge the level of work required and the quality of such work. There is no easy route to obtaining a foundation degree and a time served apprenticeship. It requires lots of input and the ability to multitask, you must be willing to get stuck in and have the drive to progress in your chosen field. Get out and discover what options exist as this may not be for you but if you decide it is you'll develop great skills, get qualified and ultimately paid whilst doing it.
