  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a manufacturing apprentice at Cummins situated at the Darlington engine plant. I currently attend college 5 days a week at South West Durham Training where we do a BTEC Qualification and a PEO qualification.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I believe I have gained appropriate existing skills in the following: Mechanical,Electrical and hand skills within my peo qualification I will then take this skills into the industry and within Cummins at the Darlington engine plant.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme I am doing at south west Durham college and I could not be happier with the process and the support I have while I am there. I also really enjoy my time at Cummins and I am very happy with the company and what it offers.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Cummins?
  • I feel very valued at Cummins by all members including managers. I have received much recognition from employees after helping them and shadowing them in different tasks and activities.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very structured and organised with everything set out appropriately, I am always informed with future plans through my manager and other employees, there is good communication between myself and my manager.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive support from everyone at the training provider with all staff providing me with appropriate information to help see me through my apprenticeship programme. The training provider also communicate me and support me on a daily basis.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am always in contact with my employer and more specifically hr manager and my line manager who support me through all different kind of tasks, a simple email or text and they respond immediately providing me with the correct support and information that I needed.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary that I am on is well above the minimum wage for a apprentice of my age which allows me to deal with living costs, travel costs,daily costs and social costs very easily. The wage I earn is fair and appropriate for my age and the line of work I am within.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes there are many opportunities outside of work including team bonding activities with fellow apprentices and team meetings allowing us all to catch up and communicate with each other.

  • Yes

  • A well established company which is a great company to work for supporting me with the work I do within the company as well as other activities outside of work.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
  • When applying and attending the Cummins assessment ensure to be confident and not to be shy. When putting a application together ensure to be thorough and detail showing that you are interested and that you really want to work for a company like Cummins.
