  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My Supply Chain Business Apprenticeship involves spending three month placements in the different teams across the department. This also includes a three month rotation on a nuclear power station. Throughout my time on the scheme, I have been involved in a number of different activities. These have been within commercial roles, so placing contracts and working on strategy documents, governance roles, overseeing the risk process and what mitigations are put in place, operational roles; quality and safety reporting and supporting audits and assessments.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Alongside the "on-the-job" learning, I have been undertaking a HND in Business Management. Completing this course has demonstrated how much I have learnt throughout my time with EDF Energy, the assignments are based around our jobs, and further enhances our learning. I have noticed that my personal development has been enhanced, I have noticed my confidence levels have increased throughout my time. I have also been involved in many internal courses, on the wider EDF Energy business and then specific training courses like Negotiation training and entry to controlled areas training.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship with EDF Energy. The work is incredibly interesting, with the best part of it being spending three months on an operating site. I like coming into work and I am really excited to begin my full time role in August. I have had so many great opportunities to develop personally and professionally throughout my apprenticeship, and I would definitely recommend others to join the scheme.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EDF?
  • The apprenticeship has a really good support system, with a line manager, attachment supervisor, mentor and sponsoring manager. This group of people are there to help aid development and recognise any good work. They send around any good news through the quarterly 'pipeline' review meetings and this gets recognised by the senior management in the department.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My scheme is well structured, however, the organisation of it could be improved. My first year in my apprenticeship I didn't complete any qualifications when I should have, however, I am now on a course that is supporting my learning.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have a lot of support from my mentor and sponsoring manager, but not too much dealings with my line manager. My mentor is a really important person within my apprenticeship, where I require any support with projects or work, my mentor will offer any guidance. I have found this role to be really valuable throughout my apprenticeship.
