  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • It was a Spring week programme at Nomura that is offered to first year university students. The programme lasted 4 days, and consisted of specialised training, networking and a general overview of the bank.

    9/10

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During the week, I learned the basics of trading through a trading game that Nomura provided. Additionally, desk shadowing allowed us to see first hand how someone at an investment bank spends their day.

    8/10

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much enjoyed the programme and would encourage fellow university students to apply. The team at Nomura made us feel very welcome. It exceeded my expectations and I hope to apply for the summer internship.

    9/10

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Nomura?
  • Nomura is well known for their working environment. They radiate a friendly and helpful feeling, which made me and other interns to feel welcome and valued. Within the industry, it is definitely one of the nicest firms to work for.

    10/10

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme worked on having an introduction day, followed by specialised days on the global markets, corporate infrastructure and investment banking division. There were networking lunches every day too.

    9/10

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There was sufficient guidance for tasks that were provided by specialist individuals. There was an introductory day whereby we were all provided with training that helped to bring us up to the same level.

    8/10

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There was a moderate level of support, but i think that this was intentional because Nomura expects their interns to be able to resolve issues by themselves and to make their own decisions.

    9/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Although the interns were not getting paid for the four days, the travel expenses were taken care of by Nomura. This helps very much for the students that are coming from abroad to attend.

    7/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There were welcoming drinks on the first and last day whereby they provided a wide range of beverages and allowed us to network with both employees of the firm and other interns from the firm.

    9/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Nomura to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Nomura is a lovely company that will take care of their interns, and as far as i am concerned, their employees too. There is a nice feel to the company too, supported by the Japanese culture that it is based on.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nomura?
  • I would always prepare for an interview by knowing how the company is founded, how it runs and more generally why you want to apply to this specific bank compared to the many others that are out there.
