  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Site Engineer Working on site to provide the information needed to complete the building. I work with the specialists on site and the managers to makes sure the right information is available when needed. I am responsible for a few teams eg bathroom, lighting and I work with the team to complete tasks. Each day is different and a lot of my time is spent out on site.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Mostly on the job, but have been sent on specific courses to aid my learning to allow me to gain confidence in my role. I have also been sent on course externally to further develop my knowledge. I have learnt many job specific skills and how to use the equipment day to day.

  • It is well organized and great way to learn and study, I much prefer this method to a full time method. I am learning and growing professionally.

  • yes, I feel the company does care about my development and does work in my best interest.

  • There is a good structure and it does feel like it has been thought out.

  • The uni I attend have given a specific person to ensure we are provided for. They are friendly and easy to get hold of

  • My employer supports my study, work and professional development.

  • My current salary does meet my cost an expense in each area.

  • Yes, engaging with schools, projects, competitions. Local community engagement.

  • Yes

  • It is a great company full of opportunity and offering a great programme for development.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Laing O'Rourke?
  • Be honest, sell your self with confidence and make sure you are the best version of yourself in each stage. If you have any relevant experience talk about it, if its not relevant then link it. There are many who would like to be offered a place but only few will be. Be the few.
