  • Cyber security analyst - Incident management role HMRC

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Everything you can possibly imagine! Time keeping, leadership, team working, communication & presenting are all soft skills I have gained from this apprenticeship; as well as technical skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Loved it, only down side is the 'woolly' training provided by QA which I haven't been able to apply to the job.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Civil Service?
  • A hard question to answer; for the most part I felt like 'the future!' And thus very valued, however with the cheapest training option (being sub-par) being provided it leans towards the opposite; that I'm just a statistic for the government to turn around and say 'we've invested in this cyber apprentice!'

  • On the job based learning & developing 10/10. Lab based QA training 5/10.

  • Minimal, it feels like they only want us to pass rather than learn.

  • Loads - line manager willing to go out of his way to ensure we're happy with technical skills & soft skills, as well as encouragement with career progression.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Covers everything I have to spend. Happy with the salary.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • We have been offered opportunities by the fast track team, however not so many from the team directly.

  • Yes

  • Great place to work, really feel like I make a difference.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Civil Service?
  • Be the best you can be, don't give up at the first hurdle. Learn the civil service competencies by heart before interviews.
