  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am being trained to become a multiskilled maintenance engineer. On a daily basis I am going to be making sure that our manual handling equipment and conveyor systems work efficiently, without any problems.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am getting an NQV Level 2 in Manufacturing Operations (Electrical, Mechanical Maintenance, Fitting) with progression to NVQ Level 3 and HNC/HND. I am being trained as well in other engineering areas such like welding, PLC, turning, milling, pneumatics, hydraulics etc.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My training programme is full of pleasant surprises, since we get to out hand on different areas of engineering. My work is going to be rewarding, because each day at work is different, no boredom, new challanges. I am especially excited about my progression to Controls Specialist, which is going to be very enjoyable, due to the fact that electronics technology never stops developing.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Amazon?
  • Honestly, so far I have been treated very well and fair. I have been supported in many areas of my work. There are always some extra projects, which I enjoy being involved within. Our manager is a person who takes into account our point of view and if something needs adjustment he will be the one to make it happen.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We had one week of an introduction the the company, we were given comprehensive information how it works, what are the rules and behaviours, goals. We know in advance what our unit schedule is going to be like. We have the support to broaden the knowledge. We were given laptops to study with. There are periodic meetings to review our progress and set SMART targets. We are aware of the hierarchy in our company, having an access to the internal platform of Amazon workers.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our tutors are always keen to answer all the question and being eager to learn is rewared. Whenever some problem occurs they will take the time to explain what went wrong, support it with theory and put as back on the right track.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Usually, whenever some problem occurs it is dealt with pretty promptly. We can contact our manager anytime we need it. We have our training advisors we can speak about anything and we know it is going to be kept confidential if needed. There is always someone ready to help. Does not matter what kind of problem it is.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Living costs as well as travel cost are all covered by out employer. Food we have to buy for ourself, while being away from home is also paid for.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There certainly are some, but I am not aware of them. It is probably, because we did not start working at our designated fulfilment centres yet. But I am pretty certain everyone could find something for themselves.

  • 9. Would you recommend Amazon to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Amazon wants you to learn and progress. If you are motivated to work smart it is a perfect match. They support you throught the journey and will make sure you have everything you need to gain your qualification. They are worldwide, you get to work in different places with variety of equipment and new technologies. The problems amazon's engineer solve are always different, thus you become challanged every time you go to work, but it is fun and makes the job exciting. When you fix or rather make sure everything is running smooth, you contribute to society, knowing that everyone enjoys their packages as soon as possible.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon?
  • I would say, that the most important factor that will decide whether one gets the job is the ability to convince HR that you want to learn and are willing to go the extra mile. This can be achieved by showcasing your past successes and achievements, courses and diplomas, extracurricular projects and other things you exceed at.
