  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am employed by a department of the British Government as a Finance Apprentice, I am in charge of updating our internal 'finance community' this allows us easy access to information on peoples roles within the department; I also assist in arranging meetings and taking minutes within these. I also check over accounts and payments made by other offices within our department.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed skills in time management and how to write in a formal way in my day to day job, I am also currently studying for a Management Accounting Qualification through which I have learnt a lot about accounting and how a business is run.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much enjoy my programme and placement as the team I work with are very friendly and welcoming as is the whole department. I also enjoy the work I am doing, I find it both pleasantly challenging and rewarding.

  • I feel very valued as if I do something well I am told I have done so by those around me.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured to a large extent but the recruitment process could have been smoother.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive a large amount of support from my training provider, my coach is always available to help me and answer any questions I have.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I a lot of support from my employer and those within my office, I have found that everyone is very happy to help if they can and will seek me out if they think I can learn from a particular experience.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary meets my costs well as for the travel I have to do I had to buy a new car, this wage allowed me to do this

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are oppurtunities outside of work as there are classes run in the gym within the building as well as monthly 'cake days' to allow everyone to catch up.

  • Yes

  • This apprenticeship is a great opportunity to begin building a career while earning a living.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Civil Service?
  • I would recommend that those applying do not worry if they don't hear from the recruitment team for what seems like long periods of time as the scheme has a lot of applicants and this can mean that it will take time to get back to you.
