  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Different IT tasks that rotate over a 6 month period. The last 6 months I have been working on server maintenance, which includes upgrading servers and fixing server errors. I have also been working closely with SharePoint to create a knowledge management system

  • AIX upgrades, Unix commands and leadership skills

  • I enjoy the programme an incredible amount, I have a chance to make a name for myself in an industry and learn whilst I do it.

  • I feel very valued by the company and the university

  • Somewhat well structured, since we're the first year in this organisation there have been some bumps in the road but we've managed to get past them

  • A lot of support is available to me at the university by the people in charge of the programme and others including my university guidance mentor

  • A lot of support is available to me at the job by the people in charge of the programme and other employees at the company including my current rotation manager and my personal mentor

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I manage well with the salary I get since I live away from home in a shared house, I don't struggle to make ends meet

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • No, not a huge amount, there isnt much time and not many organisations available to me

  • 9. Would you recommend SSE to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Every part of a university degree without the tuiton fees and student loans.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
  • Be prepared to move closer to the company since commuting to both work and uni can become a pain, always try and find time to yourself since the workload is huge.
