  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is a Technology apprentice and my day-to-day duties data gathering from applications teams, integration testing and completing college work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a foundation knowledge of IT from hardware to software and basic skills in Java, SQL, Batch Scripting, Unix Scripting. Also I have developed communication skills needed to integrate into a large company.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Not much at all. Most of the tasks given to me are either to hard or basic manual tasks. I don't feel as involved as I would like to be and most employees don't have the time or give the effort to help you.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • I feel worthless to the company. I am given next to no responsibility and when I have an issue often ignore for weeks before someone else has the same issue

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is really unstructured, most apprentices are clueless. Nobody seems to know the process of ending the apprenticeship and depending on which team an apprentice is placed into there is no consistency to how apprentices are treat

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Most of the time I have just been provided with document to read though and teach myself. I don't feel there is much support in becoming part of a team.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel the level support totally varies from team to team. I Often sit at a screen waiting for hours for help. I feel support could be greatly improved. Very rarely had an opportunity for praise

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is decent, however the living cost of the area are really high. I barely have enough money to survive usually massively overdrawn toward the end of the month.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • there are plenty of volunteering opportunities which all employees are advised to partake in one opportunity a year.

  • 9. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Salary is decent and there plenty of room for progression. The benefits are really good and the work environment is a nice place to work


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • Be prepared to sit about and do a lot of nothing. When putting down your area of interest try and get the in asap as positions will be filled by other applicants.
