  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work on the Capability team doing admin for the exams that customer facing role individuals have to sit as part of their role. I only speak to internal customers (staff of the Bank). Day to day I register people for the programme, authorise resit requests, update the intranet and deal with all queries in the shared inbox.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learnt new excel skills, emailing external companies, what to do in meetings, organising my time and using the outlook mail to organise my day. Time keeping skills - always be on time to everything and take notes of everything you do as you never know when you will need to refer to them again.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the role and it can be challenging at times. However I sometimes feel I would like to be in contact with the public and can be quite restricted. Company culture is great and there is always lots of things you can be a part of and Line Manager is always supportive of that.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • Very valued. My line manager is very supportive and helpful. Always get asked to be involved in different project which looks good in my review and can be added to my CV. Always have a fortnightly call with my manager just to see where I am up to and how I'm getting on.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Induction was okay - not enough food for everyone considering they stated lunch was provided and ran out of drinks in the morning so was not able to have another drink throughout the day. Contact with BPP is good however the calls seem very scripted and not relaxed. Responses from staff email wise is efficient.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Good support and always get a quick response from any queries. If I ever have a problem, I know who the correct person is to contact and I always get a quick response with the right information. Always have time for you and nothing ever seems rushed or that they don't care.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots of support and always know the correct person to contact for the right thing. Make a lot of time for me even though my manager is based in London I still have constant contact with her. All other support is available on the intranet which is easy to use and navigate.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Pay is very good as RBS for a starting wage, however I do not feel that is goes up as much as I'd like to when progressing onto another level. However there are lots more opportunities for different roles with different pay levels which I can look into.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes lots of events available. normally email circulated so you can pick and choice what you would like to be involved in. As it is in the city centre there is a lot more choice for activities. I am a member of the Young Banker's Association at RBS which e=is very good for the young people that work here to get to know each other.

  • 9. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They look after you well and care for your welfare. Always have the correct support available for any matter. Everything is adjusted to your needs and everyone goes out of their way for each other. Pay reflects the role very well when you start and always the opportunity to rise based on how hard you work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • For preparing for the interview, make notes of all the things that you have done that could relate to something - eg teamwork - think of a scenario where you have previously worked in a team which went well. Or a time where you have had to make a difficult decision or deal with a difficult customer. Speak to as many people as you can in the induction - you have going to be working with them for at least a year and it's good to have good contacts.
