  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I assist the project controls team in planning and tracking the progress of the project. As part of the project controls team it is our job to assist the entire team as much as we can, this may involve the collection and disruption of data about the project.

  • Project management and knowledge of how a project functions and needs to be controlled / monitored. Communicational skills and interpersonal skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the responsibility and the challenge the programme offers. There are lots of opportunities to work with some very experienced people and learn a lot from them.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Atkins?
  • I feel like they look at all their apprentices as the future of the company and are willing to invest a lot of time in their learning and development which makes us feel incredibly valued by the company.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel because the apprenticeship hasn't been running for very long, it takes a while before you can really get going and get stuck into a project. The work / school balance is very well managed however, and there is lots of support available.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • They are their to answer any question at any time. They obviously work with many other apprentices but the support they offer is always personal to your needs.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We are in a small team of apprentices here so the support is specific and personal which is really good. There are lots of channels for support to there's always someone to talk to.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Working in London can be very expensive but I feel for the work that we do that salary is fair. I'm at an age where I need to be saving and the company supports this.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • From the people I have met within the company, opportunities are beginning to arise outside of work, but with school work and work its not always an option.

  • 9. Would you recommend Atkins to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They have a good programme that looks after the apprentices and invests a lot of time and effort into them. There's lots of opportunities available and plenty of support.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Atkins?
  • Be yourself. They can identify what type of person you are and if you're right for the job, it will come through. Be confident in your skills and be willing to learn.
