  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I joined the business as a commercial apprentice, within the first week, I was given some of my own tasks to do just simple things like updating price trackers for my colleagues to get me settled & not overload me too much on the first week. By the second week I was being trained on how to do my day to day tasks (updating important business wide documents, completing weekly reports for customers etc). Within 3 weeks of me joining, I had my own workload which kept me busy daily and I got quicker at doing things so was then given more tasks to do such as setting up promotions and raising information on new lines for customers. I become part of a great team very quickly and got to learn so many new things. Since my second or third week in the business I have owned a couple of business important documents that have to be updated weekly and sometimes even daily.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I gained a qualification with my apprenticeship, I studied for 2 weeks at college and the rest of the coursework was either done at work or at home. I developed my skills within Microsoft office because I have to use it daily. I gained more confidence over time & developed my communication skills

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Whilst on the apprenticeship scheme for 18 months, I really enjoyed it - I worked with a brilliant team & loved the work I did on a daily basis. I also enjoyed the challenging part to it, because it helped with developing myself, some days were more challenging than others.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme was well structured and organised - I sat the site induction when I started the apprenticeship which was useful. I was trained well from day one & couldn't ever complain about the way I was trained. The support I had from the full team was amazing and I was always given time to study if I needed it.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We received great support from the training provider, they were always there for us to pop in or have a chat over email/phone if we needed it. You were never turned away and if you didn't understand a part of your coursework you were never judged for asking for help.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As above, you were given the same amount of support from the employer - always happy for you to ask question or run parts of your coursework past them to see if you were answering with the correct answers. You also got to go and sit with members of other teams to complete coursework if needed so that they could talk you through there job in the business correctly.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary package was great for me when I started at 17. It covered all costs needed and I still had plenty left after all costs were paid. The great thing about the site I work at is being only 15 minutes away from home and is commutable on public transport if needed.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Whilst working for Bakkavor I have signed up to a gym, which you get discount off your fee for working with the company. There are voluntary things that you can sign yourself up for every so often and get out to represent Bakkavor. You can also transfer to a different site at times in your career if that is what you want to do.
