1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

10/10

My job title was "Apprentice IT Infrastructure Engineer". Within this role I worked within the partnerships Infrastructure Operations department meaning I was working directly on the IT Infrastructure that supported all the partnerships operations including both trading divisions incl John Lewis and Waitrose.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

10/10

Through this apprenticeship I gained numerous Microsoft MTAs, HP ATAs as well as the level 3 BTEC qualifications. Through my employer I also did further industry qualifications and other internal training courses. Working in a company like JLP really did help me to develop my interpersonal skills as well as learn so much about my chosen specialism in IT.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

10/10

Great company to work for. My team made me feel so valued at all times giving me a high level of responsibility as I wanted quickly whilst giving support at all times whenever I needed it and along the way. Programme exceeded my expectations completely.

4. How valued do you feel by John Lewis Partnership?

10/10

JLP is a place which gives you so much appreciation for everything you do no matter how little. My department often called out big wins for each team and projects and pieces of work I worked on were often called out as part of this. JLP has great personable benefits to go along with this to make you overall feel soo valued at all times. They really listened to me at all times at all levels.

5. How well organised/structured is your programme?

10/10

Well organised apprenticeship scheme. Always have support along the way with an assigned manager, technical mentor and buddy (who is an ex-apprentice). Only ever a week out at a time for training meaning you can take on real responsibility in the workplace.

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

10/10

Arch Apprentices were great. My assessor, Waleed, provided so much support at all times even being there for questions and support after my apprenticeship actually finished. My assessor actually delivered the vast majority of my training which was great as I had, and still have, a great personable relationship with my assessor.

6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

10/10

JLP both from management level and from all my colleagues gave me great support along the way. With coursework and other apprenticeship commitments they were very accommodating at all times no matter how busy the whole team was sometimes. The JLP learning team (Partner Development) were not actively engaged with my particular apprenticeship scheme but were on hand should I have any questions or need any help. The IT Training team were great in helping us with resources along the way.

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

10/10

Salary good for an apprenticeship but the commuting cost means you would find it difficult to move out while on this apprenticeship. Benefits that they provide are great and even some money cannot buy benefits which are amazing and certainly help the partnership be a very special place to work.

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

10/10

JLP has a very good culture. JLP lesiure benefits team do a great job at organsiing events. There are various events throughout the year including exclusive take overs of various theme parks which mean they are only allowed for JLP partners (partners means staff at JLP) meaning they are empty!. JLP also have a strong community culture especially in head office with various groups such as the ski club with trips annually, the golf society, among others.

9. Would you recommend John Lewis Partnership to a friend?

Yes

9b. Why?

JLP is a great place to work. You literally cannot go wrong with working at JLP for your whole career. Such a friendly atmosphere with a real family feel.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to John Lewis Partnership?

Just do it! JLP is a great place to work which has great unique benefits. JLP interview process is indepth but certainly not the worst process I have done. Great experience either way.
