  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently a trainee buyer, with a years experience in merchandising, which I did for the first year of my programme. My day to day job involves sample handling, order raising and comp shopping for my department.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been on a lot of internal training courses, including resilience and presentation skills. I am also studying for a Level 4 Diploma in Buying and Merchandising at the FRA.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really anjoy my programme - I have experience in both buying and merchandising will the opportunity to choose which one I want to go in to. I have a great team, who support my development, as well as being able to build some great friendships at work. The experience has definitely been as good as I hoped it would be.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Tesco?
  • I feel valued by Tesco and within my team. My manager makes me feel as though my opinion counts and she gives me a lot of responsibility within my team that helps me to develop as we all showcase my own skills.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme has been very good, with initial training in the beginning months to learn how to use systems, as well as training within personal elements of work. My college course has also suited my developmemt at work, which has helped in ym assignments where I can relate real life work situations to scenarios I work with at college.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We have a website which allows us to book courses, we also have a HR contact who will discuss suitable courses for any training needs we feel like we have. I feel well supported within my role, people within my team as well as outsie my team we always on hand to help with anything I need.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a good amount of support, there is always a HR representative to discuss any concerns with, but I also feel comfortable to talk to members of my team

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I feel as though my salaary isn't bad, I live in a fairly expensive area but I'm able to make ends meet. Luckily I drive as the train commute can be failry expensive

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Within my Early Careers network, there is opportunities to go for work drinks and activities. F&F also host BBQs and parties for Christmas and Summer that help us to socialise within our function.

  • 9. Would you recommend Tesco to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • For all the retaliers I've worked with, I feel the most supported here. I feel as though my progress and development is important and people want to see me do well. There is a wealth of oppotunities here.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tesco?
  • I would advise applicants, especially for my programme, to thoroughly research their job role before applying. At first tehe job role can be very admin based and you need to be able to work through that before getting to more of the interesting responsibilities that the job holds.
