  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a finance apprentice and worked in AP in my first year and I am now working in tax. I have some set jobs for my month end roles which don't change day to day but then have other larger analysis tasks within tax. I am treated like everyone else in the team and given the same level of responsibility.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt so many things since joining Sky, I have been on CIMA courses which have taught me more about becoming a management accountant but have also developed skills such as working in a team, time management, etc. I have also become a lot more confident since joining Sky.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy the apprenticeship programme. I am able to put the theory into practice meaning it makes a lot more sense. There is so much support not only within my team but across Sky. There is always someone to turn to no matter what the issue is.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Sky?
  • I feel extremely valued by Sky. Our PDPs show that our managers recognise out hard work and appreciate it and even though we are apprentices we are treated fairly and equally to all other employees.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • From Sky's side of things the programme is extremely well organised but sometimes I feel this is a bit let down by BPP. There is constant date changes and course changes and there is a total lack of communication and it is often us having to reach out to them and ask the question!

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • As stated above the lack of communication from BPP is frustrating, that being said though, the tutors are excellent. They are all very patient and approachable during our courses.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I couldn't ask for more support from sky. we have the starting out team which help us and are always there to answer any questions even though we have been here for 18 months now they will always be there to offer a helping hand where it is needed. We also have a buddy & mentor for support within finance.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is really good for it being an apprenticeship. I had to take a wage cut to come to Sky so I felt that a bit difficult but I am just thinking short term loss, long term gain and it will all be worth it in the end as I have so many prospects here.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes - Sky have social teams & buzz teams which organise quiz nights and other nights out for finance which is really good as you get a chance to speak to people outside of a working environment and also speak to some people you maybe never normally get the chance to speak to.

  • 9. Would you recommend Sky to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Sky has been the best employer I have ever worked for - hands down. The support the company offer not only to people on apprenticeships but to all staff is outstanding. Within finance Sky offer CIMA to all accounts assistants that are performing well within their PDPs and offer them study support whilst doing these exams.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sky?
  • I would advise to be yourself when applying to Sky. They love to see passion and personality in someone, although having relevant qualifications etc. is also important. It's natural to be nervous but just remember... everyone there is the same! :)
