  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the Corporate Communications team, specifically a member of the International PR and Social Media functions. On a daily basis I am likely to be analysing media coverage, drafting press releases, coordinating interviews with Schroders' key spokespeople and using 3rd party producers to develop media for use on social platforms.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have been able to develop my communication and team working skills incredibly. Working across different teams in our London office and indeed worldwide, being able to communicate efficiently and concisely is vital to success in my role. Indeed, I have been able to develop other skills such as time management, prioritisation and problem solving.

  • I thoroughly enjoy my job and the wider programme.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Schroders?
  • Schroders take care of all their staff. Trainees benefit from full benefits that permanent staff offer as well as targeted training aimed to develop soft and hard skills.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The course is well structured. We have deadlines to meet for projects, set training sessions and external events with Investment 2020. The communication from HR and I2020 is relatively good.

  • When applicable, trainers are available for direct contact to help with individual questions and queries.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Schroders are very good and making time for you to attend training. Similarly, they are proactive in their approach to wellbeing and setting/achieving personal development targets.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Living outside of London in the South East is expensive due to season tickets on the train. Despite this, Schroders probably pay an average salary when considering the benefits offered to trainees.

  • Yes, there are opportunities for externally run training events and social evenings with other I2020 trainees.

  • Schroders is a fantastic company to be part of. They take care of their staff and encourage you to develop as a person while branching out and making contacts across the business.

  • Make sure you have a good understanding of what the business does and do your research into what you'll be doing on a day-to-day basis. If this is tough to find out, just ask.
