Tax trainee Review

As a tax trainee, my role on a day to day basis tend to be very varied. I do a lot of corporate tax work which includes studying the accounts of the different entities that make up the company, and also work with Transfer Pricing and VAT. I often have contact with people all over the world as tax is something that the company must pay wherever we conduct business, and it can often be very interesting studying current news and the macroeconomic climate in order to facilitate future tax operations. I meet with representatives of the 'big 4' accounting firms a lot and have also worked with wealth management, real estate and marketing on projects which demonstrates the variety of my role.

My computer based skills have improved ten fold since starting the trainee programme back in August. Perhaps more importantly though is that my self-confidence and ability to express myself in a concise and articulate manner especially in business meetings has grown massively. We have been on courses in order to be more effective at business writing, presentation skills and handling difficult situations which has undoubtedly helped.

I enjoy the programme a lot, there are certainly challenges and it does take a while to acclimatise to the work environment but the amount of growing up I have done and how much more confident in my skills because of the trainee programme is enormous.

I feel very valued by Schroders, I have interactions with many aspects of the company as well as senior figures within it, and I can honestly say that everyone I have come across has been more than willing to help me in any way possible.

Well-organised, there are lots of different training courses we attend as well as plenty of information about the relevant exams we have to sit. Everyone in HR is really nice and friendly to talk to if you have any questions and problems. They are also good at keeping your line manager informed about whats going on and the line-managers themselves, in my case in particular, have both been exceptional.

I receive a great deal of support from my training provider. We have weekly catch-ups and their attitude is fantastic.

I would definitely say that I receive a lot of support from my employer, if I ever have any problems then I always know that I can talk to them and they will provide me with solid advice and flexibility. The HR team are very good and friendly and I haven't got any complaints at all about my time thus far at Schroders.

Reasonably well, I don't live in London so costs for me aren't that much, but I imagine if you did, then it might be quite hard to get by. That being said, as far as wages for a trainee programmee go, the salary is very competitive.

Plenty of company events and very supportive of charity work. There is also a gym which is very convenient.
