  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in Wealth Management Operations, I have rotated through various roles such as Loans Admin, Client Documentation and Wealth Planning Support. All these area are very different from each other so day to day I could be chasing pension providers or generating reports of opening new accounts.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my public speaking, time management and also developed my prioritising skills by the use of delegation. External Events are good as you are able to broaden your knowledge and get more of an understanding of the financial market.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Working in the city has been fun and I have a good relationship with my line manager which has really helped me enjoy the programme. Going through the different departments also is good as it makes a change and helps you brush up on certain skills and develop new ones.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Schroders?
  • From the start my manager made me feel like part of the team and as I have been rotating through departments each supervisor has also been very appreciative. When you have done a good job you are always told about it and rewarded for it. Obviously as a trainee you will not be given the hardest and most important bits of work which in a way can be a little annoying but is still understandable and they still see you as part of the team.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At the start of the year we was given training dates which for various reason has been changed over the year. Sometimes it can be last minuet which can be an issue if you have advised your manager you are out of the office on that day as this could mean your work load is covered and you may not have a lot to do. However the training sessions we have had have all gone very well and throughout the year a lot of things are covered through these training sessions.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I would say we have not had much contact with the training providers other than the session. However a few have asked us to take note of their email in case of any queries. When it comes to the Claritas exam there is one brief meeting in regards to the actual qualification, and one training session.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My Manager has been extremely supportive as I had a medical issue at the beginning of the year and she made sure I was doing everything I could to get better. My manager also shows a key interest in what would be best for me as she has chosen departments which will stand out on my CV in the current market.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Due to the location working in London, salary is expected to be higher that out of London. However the traineeship wage is not as big as you would expect it to be. Once you cancel out your annual travel costs and daily costs it can be rather low. Although considering this is a traineeship and not a full time permanent job the wage is relatively good.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There is lots to do outside of Schroders, such as volunteering, external events and much more. They also have sport teams such as a Netball and Football team. The city has a lot of bars, pubs and restaurants so a lot of people stay out on a Thursday/Friday night for a couple of drinks which makes the social life very good working for Schroders.

  • 9. Would you recommend Schroders to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Overall Schroders is a good company to work for, everyone in Schroders is very helpful and they want you to succeed in your career. Even if after the year you decide you want to do something else, having CV on your CV will really stand out to any employer and as long as you take the opportunities given to you, you will go miles in just a year.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Schroders?
  • Prepare for your interview and focus on your experiences and how they can be relevant to the particular work area you are going into. Dress smartly and be confident on the assessment day as this is the first time you are meeting face to face with your potential managers.
