  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • as an apprentice I am on a job rotor, so the type of placement can give a completely different job depending. in my current role I am designing enclosure for circuit cards and running simulation analysis using CAD. I now carry out real project work and contribute to departments for each one which I enter.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am working towards my HNC in engineering, and working towards my NVQ level 3. I have also undertaken internal courses to add to the training I was receiving on the job, some of these courses include Creo training, what is a missile?, product safety etc.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my program, the people are very accepting and the work is interesting. being able to move around gives you a wider network and ability to see what I enjoy and dislike. the apprenticeship has definitely met my expectations.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by MBDA?
  • I do feel value from my line managers and employers as I am given work of value and am praised if it is done well. I have been recognised my other staff of my efforts of my work as it comes into their light.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the program is well structured, as the program is organised with inductions, training, college, buddies, a placement schedule and life skill courses.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My NVQ advisor comes about once every 3 months. They give plenty of support where possible however it sometimes feels like progress is slow.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get a lot of support from my employer. they are very helpful and is always willing to listen and work through problems wherever they can. I know I can always call, email or see my employer and know they will be there.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I live with parents as I'm not ready to move out. my salary meets my current needs for travel/social etc. but I am probably about a year or two away from being on a salary that could allow me to live on my own should I wish.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I go on several school events and get invited to various company events. outside of work I have plenty of time so I have the option to go to a club but I usually just concentrate on my hobbys at home.

  • 9. Would you recommend MBDA to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • MBDA offers a good and rounded apprenticeship, you will leave with a strong network and good skill so long as you work hard and take your opportunities well.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to MBDA?
  • make sure you have examples outside of school, the employers like to know you done well in school but want to know you have a natural interest too!
