  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a work experience student I moved around each department where I was assigned a supervisor to help me with tasks that day. I was introduced to all the staff involved in each department and given an overview of their role. Each task was different and varied depending on which department I was with, but tasks typically involved doing some research into the different areas of law, how they worked in practice and then applying it to a practical task related to a client the company had either previously dealt with or was currently dealing with. I was responsible for my own work however it was all checked by members of staff.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Pinsent Masons?
  • At Pinsent Masons i felt like a valuable member of the team, they were understanding of the previous education of the work experience students so targeted tasks well to suit this. Before visiting Pinsent Masons and while on the experience program I felt appreciated and my work was recognized, however it would have been valuable to maintain the contact after leaving the program.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program was well organised, every day had an agenda that worked well for both the company and work experience student. There was a gradual introduction which ensured that all students were at the same level and all questions had been answered. There was constant support available throughout the program which was extremely useful and is a typical example of the company's organisation. The mentor system was well organised as it meant that there was a member of staff who was working alongside you ready to help whenever needed. There was clear organisation and structure within each department where every member of staff was acknowledge and valued.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There was constant support from a mentor, but this was not overpowering as they also allowed you to continue tasks unsupervised providing you felt comfortable. They were easily accessible throughout my time at Pinsent Masons and made sure all questions were answered. Each mentor seemed happy to help and were always enthusiastic to future plans and time within the company.
