Trainee Planner Review

Trainee Planner. Daily tasks include reviewing of program and making necessary changes as per information gained. Entering progress on job and providing feedback to the rest of the team as required. Daily interactions are with all members of the site team and external companies as required. Currently working on the GEIC project.

I have learnt many job specific skills in the first six months working for Laing O'Rourke and also had opportunity to develop existing skills. I have had opportunity to go on several courses and gain qualifications including the fire marshal course and the IOSH 2 day training as well as internal course to develop excel and PowerPoint skills. My line manager has also helped develop my confidence in presenting and discussing information with internal and external sources.

For me the preogamme is more than what I expected. The programme is very well structured and organized with a variety of support available for you from all different levels in the company. The company has a very open culture allowing you to ask 'daft' questions to help build knowledge.

I feel very valued at Laing O'Rourke. My line manager regularly praises my and helps develop me in a positive way. It is also good that regional managers take time out to visit you or email you to discuss how I am doing and if there is anything else they could do for me.

The programme is very well organized. Details are given in plenty of time allowing you to plan in effectively. It is good that people in the company are willing to help with your studies if you are wanting advice on specific subject.

The university I attend isn't great in my opinion. At Liverpool John Moores it is the first year they have run the degree I attend p/t in several years. Some lecturers are more helpful than others with work. A lot of the work done is related back to property development or building houses which isn't really very specific to most of the work that Laing's do.

The support is available if needed for all things. I've found that most people in the company are willing to help and don't make you feel stupid.

The salary package is relatively low as a starting salary and only just covers my basic living costs leaving very little for social activities.

There have been a few social events and are upcoming charity events available for me to take part in.

Be confident through the whole Laing O'Rourke experience. If you don't understand anything then just ask because people because they will always help you.
