  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I did a one week work experience, working in numerous different departments of Pinsent Masons. I had a presentation with my trainee and joint practice groups ranging from corporate to projects and planning, environment, energy and infrastructure. I also did a mock trial and had a litigation presentation.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt how to draft and schedule. I also did reports on companies using information from the Gov.org website to fill in a table. Whilst at the projects department I ensured information written on folders were correctly typed up on the computer. I also wrote an article about a current affairs topic that is in the news in order to improve my writing skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed it immensely. I was able to gain a new experience into law which I am certain I would not gain else where. I like the fact that the programme brought together all the work experience students together making it easier to make friends with like minded people. I enjoyed working as a team within my department, and I would also like to stress the fact that everyone ranging from the receptionist to the paralegals and solicitors, they were all approachable and you could ask any question.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Pinsent Masons?
  • I feel extremely valued, I know the work I produced was looked at and always there was improvements suggested. When I wrote an article, I was given improvements on it and then was also given another chance to write it again and have it checked. I worked in a team everyday, and a god example is the mock tribunal where everyone was given an important role, and I knew my part was valued.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I like the fact that I was not told to photocopy or print and serve drinks. Instead I was given actual tasks, writing reports, articles and practically having a job similar to my supervisor. This to me was important because it has allowed me to consider with commercial law is right for me.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I received a lot of help. Mainly, the support gave me guidance on whether law is the right degree for me to pursue and also if commercial law is the career I want to get into.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • 6/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • N/A. I only applied for work experience and so the salary was not discussed. It was more of me gaining an insight into the career itself. I would be better, none the less, if this was outlined and discussed more often.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Again, my experience was solely about law and a career about commercial law. This was not outlined clearly during my work experience. However, there are charity events and many of the workers volunteer at a school. The company also donate money to charity.

  • 9. Would you recommend Pinsent Masons to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I found the whole experience an eye opener and I would recommend it to someone who is not to sure whether pursuing a law related career is the best for them. Speaking to some of the workers, I found them highly inspirational and also great to talk to and approachable.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • Make sure you bring a pen, in case the one provided begins to not work. Always be yourself, your not there to compete with the other interns but rather learn in order to shape your self for the real world.
