MEP Cadet Review

I'm part of the MEP team at Tottenham Court Road Crossrail Project. My aim is to maintain a varied scope of work to ensure I'm learning as many different areas within the industry as possible. I look after; the procurement and order call offs for the lighting package, Material Compliance Records, involvement in engineering electrical products and overcoming issues; just to name a few.

I am working towards my Bachelors degree at University alongside working, as the S&CL programme is a day release scheme. This has a few pros and cons when it comes to managing your work load however, the long term benefits from achieving a Bachelors degree completely outweigh the cons. I have the option to complete a wide range of training within the company. My personable skills, teamwork skills, professionalism (just to name a few) have improved drastically.

I enjoy all areas of this programme including the team I work with, the people I've met, the work I'm set to complete, the tasks and problems we have to overcome, and many, many more.

I get along well with my team and managers, and I feel the use me to my full potential. There are also so many benefits to working with Laing O'Rourke including pension Schemes, company cars, private health care - a few of a very long list.

There's a lot of work load to manage and sometimes the programme conflicts with work. University has many negative points with regards to quality of lecturers and organization. Work 10/10 - Programme 9/10 - University 5/10

As much as I like. The training provider is always willing to help.

The salary is low starting on £15,000 a year. This is difficult to manage when weighing up working/living costs. LOR do pay for University and Travel, so the low wage isn't so bad when calculated.

Prepare for a lot of work and evening working. The outcome will be worth it.
