  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Project management apprentice - part of a project team which monitors the engineering performance of the business. Responsible for the costs in engineering sections of the business.

  • Able to now think in a more logical manner and approach problems with a more diplomatic viewpoint. Doing this helps me to solve problems and work through tasks faster.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme as I undertake a variety of roles in my apprenticeship and by the end point will be able to draw upon a wide range of experiences.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAE Systems?
  • Even though I am an apprentice, I am given responsibility in my role and I am able to self-manage and plan my own work - this makes me feel valued by the company and more motivated.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised- there is a clear structure as to the academic side of the degree studies as well as fulfilment of higher apprenticeship tasks. This is as well as moving placements every year based on the needs of the individual

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There are various channels of support through the college side of the course, this involves one to ones with tutors and regular reviews, whilst there is additional learning support provided to help with the assignments that we are given

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • On the work side of the apprenticeship there are many ways to get support - these include line managers, mentors, HR & ethics helpline who are all there to support you if needs be.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Very well - Still living at home is a huge cost saving but I could comfortably afford to move out. The salary provided is more than adequate and plays a part in motivating myself.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes, there are opportunities to represent the business in schools, colleges and local events. I have received training to become both an education ambassador and STEM ambassador for the business.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The combination of work experience and degree means that you are able to gain a head start in your career to those who choose just the academic route, the salary is competitive and the industry is interesting.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Be competent and knowledgeable about the business and the industry. Draw from past experiences on assessment centres and try to think logically during tasks and aptitude tests.
