  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my role on a day to day basis is checking through three separate mailboxes which include pricing analysis of products across two lines of business and pricing exceptions that have to be evidenced by individual regions globally, furthermore I have other work coming in from JPMorgan in the united states this mostly includes keeping up to date with the training tracker so I log who has sat through the specific training sessions provided and also tasks which include identifying the stage of a deal between JP Morgan and a client so we can see what profitability they offer us going forward.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • yes I have learnt the key skill of time management and organization, keeping up to date by completing and filtering through three mailboxes is hard to juggle but if you are properly organized it makes it much easier furthermore this leads into the next skill I have learnt which is prioritizing tasks which is essential in a company like JPM. Furthermore I have studied towards three qualifications, we have just sat the first one which I have passed (introduction to investment securities)I am now studying towards the second and third.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Day to day tasks can be slightly repetitive however there is also a lot of tasks that come in that are different and are usually to do with regulatory changes in the bank and these are very intriguing. My team are fantastic and very supportive towards helping me develop asan apprentice, it met up to some of my expectations but not all of them! a lot of the day to day tasks I would have never expected but now I do them I understand they are necessary to the bank.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by J.P. Morgan?
  • I am heavily involved with meetings and committees within the bank. Team meetings discuss performance around commercial bank in a particular region everyone is welcome for their say on a particular subject so I feel included on that aspect appreciation from manager is not for completing a task but when you do something more than what has been asked of you or to a very high standard which is fair. I have been involved in different projects from the very start from several different members of the team and my input has been used for example using the Microsoft tool Visio i have set up a project achievements newsletter which will be available to others in commercial bank

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • very well organized. we where eased into the new working life we hadn't experienced before very well training is mandatory so no chance that JPM will allow you to slip on your knowledge! In regards to mentors etc. i have a buddy who is also in the apprenticeship a year before me. I meet up with her and she helps me go through anything i am struggling with or am worried about so this aspect especially i find very good, task delegation is fair and i often have the opportunity to get involved in new tasks but could be more often

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • tutors have been available for help whenever asked, in addition just recently there was a mandatory review we all had as a one on one of how the apprenticeship was going for us, I used this as a chance to express what i liked what i was doing well in but also what i found tough or didn't like. i expressed the bits i didn't like as much and the advice i received was very helpful

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • anytime is have a question or am not too sure on how to go about a task i just message my manager and she comes straight over. Or if this cant happen it will be the next free minute she has to help and guide me through what i need to know and do, However there is a large expectation that i should have quite a detailed understanding of some areas/products which may be un justifies to the amount of time i have been here, but being pro active and asking questions is hugely encouraged for new comers to managers.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • its a fair wage however if you are one who has have to move in order to be able to do the apprenticeship then i believe it might be a bit of a squeeze with all the costs to your day to day living, but to speak for myself i am comfortable as i still live at home and travel in to work on the train which isn't hugely expensive

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • yes! there are loads of opportunities to get involved with career fairs /general events that are related to the apprenticeship as we represent the apprenticeship so are always encouraged to participate furthermore a lot of the apprentices meet outside of work to go for drinks etc so the in work and outside of work relationship is somewhat combined. There is at least 1 career fair that we will be asked to see if we can attend each week by our tutor, furthermore my manager is going to take me up to visit the London branch soon to meet the sales team.
