  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is Technology Apprentice, working within the ENS or Enterprise Network Services team, supporting day to day network operations, and dealing with incidents, services requests and changes in which are required, in order to keep the network running and functional. Further to this, interaction with other teams such as the UNIX team, virtualisation team and other platform teams is a common feature of my day, supporting there physical infrastructure, to ensure there kit is network ready and operational.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, defiantly. Existing skills wise, I've developed soft skills such as communication skills. New skills wise, I've developed my technical skills massively, becoming competent on vendor equipment and products in which I'd never even heard of prior to joining Fidelity. I've achieved my ICND1 Cisco qualification, and I'm soon going to be taking the ICND2, in order to achieve my Cisco CCNA.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Extensively. I love my team. I love my role. And I love my job. I couldn't be within a better team. No day is the same. Every challenge is unique and new, and I feel like I'm contributing, embedding and becoming part of my team. The in job part of the program is great, however, the mandatory apprentice related tasks in which they make you take part in a tad redundant and pointless in my opinion. For example, the recent training day at Cannon Street. I felt with was a waste of my day and time, when I could actually being doing work in which is useful.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Fidelity International?
  • By my team, I feel very valued. I feel like I belong to that team and I'm apart of it. And I feel as if they all take care of me and look after my best interests. This applies from the technical analysts and specialists within the team, going all the way up to my department director. Within regards to HR and other business functions such as this, in which have the designated responsibility of looking after our best interests and making us feel valued, I can't say the same. The reason I can't say the same, is due to the fact that we hardly ever hear from them, and when we do hear from them, the conversation is brief, non-detailed, impersonal and useless.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Qualification wise, it's great. However, the mandatory training in which they make you do is pointless and a waste of time. Entire days filled up with sessions on useless knowledge in which people will never use. Within regards to the structure put in place by my team, this is top class, and I have a set development plan and path in which I'm to follow, to get me to the position and role I want to be within.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • As much or as little as I want. If I want to contact my training provider, I can email her, I can phone her, I can leave a message for her on the VLE portal. She's always there if I need

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From my team, colleagues and manager, tones. If I require support within any aspect, they are there for me, and provide me with the resources required to help with what ever I need.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Very well. Considering I can also claim over time as well, salary wise, I live quite comfortably for my age and needs. Travel reimbursement for travel to other offices is also a massive plus, that helps with cost.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Plenty. Team days. Clubs after work. Walks and charity days / charity runs. While I don't personally participate within these, I know of other who have, and find it very enjoyable.

  • 9. Would you recommend Fidelity International to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it's a company in which looks after its employees, and makes you feel very at home and comfortable. Everyone I've met has been great, friendly and very supportive.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fidelity International?
  • Be passionate about what you do, and that'll shine through and be noticed / rewarded. Further to that, ask questions, explore the organisation, and being an active member of the Fidelity community.
