Most of my work is to prepare and assist prototype vehicles for testing. This can be anything from; wheels and tyres, dynamics (suspension, roll bars and bushes), brakes, instrumentation and odd jobs. During my apprenticeship I have been placed on several different placements in different departments to develop skills that I will use in my daily role.
Most of what I have learnt has been new to me while the rest has helped me develop existing skills.
At times the college side of things has been a bit testing, however I enjoy going into work every day and really enjoy my role.
I do believe that even as an apprentice I am valued at JLR. Everyone is friendly and treats you as a pear and are always willing to help you or pass on knowledge.
Most of the apprenticeship is well structured however sometimes at college there have been some problems with timetabling.
In my department we have a training manager who oversees our training while there. My WBLM also supports me in my daily role and he works as a liason with the college and JLR.
My employer actively supports me and we have regular meeting to discuss my progress.
I rent in the area after moving here for the role and especially in the first year the cost of running a house and car was more expensive than my earnings. however we get regular raises in our wage ad it has become better. The wage is very good for an apprentice and had I not been renting the wage would be more than enough.
Te company regularly take part in CSR events which are open for employees to participate in whenever they wish.
Yes
It has been the best choice I've made and I enjoy every day at work.
Be yourself on the assessment day they look for good behaviours not necessarily prior knowledge. They can teach knowledge however its harder to teach someone how to behave.
