I am an apprentice broadcast engineer and while not at uni studying maths and electronics I am on placement with various service providers for the BBC or with the BBC themselves shadowing apprentices and carrying out my own projects.
Aside from my physical learning in my uni work I feel like my independence and my confidence have grown hugely from my work on placement and the responsibilities of Uni.
I fully enjoy my programme, my cohort are fantastic and I am interested in all the work i am doing on placement and at Uni. My only issue is with the Uni BCU whichseems unorganised and unhelpful at times.
The BBC is clearly investing a lot of money and resources into my education and I feel highly valued.
The organisation and structure of the programme is sound despite how little time is allocated for everything which is understandable with trying to fit a degree course into 3 years while also doing multiple lengthy placements.
Some support is provided by my training providers however this could definitely be improved upon.
A lot of support is given by my employer who is always easily contactable by email or is available for meetings. There are also frequent check ups with my managers to ensure that everything is going ok.
My salary package is plenty compared to my costs as a lot of what costs me money can be claimed throughexpenses.
There are various things that have been made apparent through email however they are all over the country in BBC centres and mostly in London and Birmingham so are difficukt to attend.
Yes
The BBC is a diverse and caring employer and they want the best for their employees.
Just try and be yourself and showcase your skills and be open to development.
