  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Job title: Actuarial Apprentice Daily tasks: Completing calculations for individuals and drafting reports Internal interactions: Everyone of varying levels sits together so I interact with all other actuaries at different stages of their career each day External interactions: I do not talk to many people externally at the moment apart from those providing the apprenticeship (BPP) Responsibilities: Completing work on time and to a high standard

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Internal courses: There is usually at least one course per month to develop me knowledge; if not, the other members of staff are happy to talk you through new work I have leant a whole new range of skills as I came into the job knowing very little; this includes things such as what an actuary is to how to discount and provide retirememnt projections

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • There is usually enough work to keep you busy however when there is not you can develop your skills by helping others; the team are very friendly and willing to help you whenever they can; the company look out for their staff and wellbeing is a priority for them

  • Those who are 'higher' than you always appreciate the work you do for them and appreciate you going above and beyond for them as they will do the same for you

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been well thought out with time factored in to complete the logbook needed however trying to fit study in with a full time job and long commute is hard. Everyone is willing to support you where they can however work comes first.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There is a tutor on hand at all times to email with other contacts happy to help as well. The BPP staff want to push you as much as they can

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager has regular catch ups with myself to check how I am getting on and offers support if I need it; I know I can go to her when I need to

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary allows me to pay for housekeeping, run a car and put both savings and a pension away for the future. I live a 90mile round trip from work so fuel is a high outgoing but my salary is still able to cope with inflation.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There is always an event going on either with collegues or the company itself. Aon have set up a community day in order to for collegues to be able to help those around them with a lot of staff joining in.

  • 9. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have felt like I fit in as soon as I started with everyone being very friendly and supportive. The wage is very competitive and the company itself is very well structured and organised.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • The application is a very long process however you need to be confident the whole way through. During the assessment days you are watched the whole day through-do not forget that but make sure you are not 'cocky'. Once onboard you are sent a lot of information before your first day; make sure you read it as it will all come in as handy knowledge when talking to others and your employers. The residential may seem quite long however the facts they give you will make you feel a part of the team
