I am based in Press Shop of the Halewood site and I help maintain and run one of the lines. This involves checking die sets before they go into line and fault finding problems when the line stops. I have been given more and more responsibility as my confidence grows and have been allow to complete projects that will help the maintenance teams.
I have learnt new skills in robotics, welding and programming. I have also developed my general maintenance skills as I have always been looking at how/why things work. This allowed me to repair equipment before starting the apprenticeship and has improved my problem solving skills.
I have enjoyed my programme as well as the job that I am qualifying for. I get along with my team that I am learning from and the job is challenging but rewarding. It met my expectations in some areas but exceeded them in others.
I do feel valued by JLR and everyone that I work with. I get praise from the upper management as well as from my team. If I'm not sure and need help they are always ready to offer it to me and show me how the job can be done.
There is currently improvement in the programme structure and it is being developed as the industry changes. The delegation of tasks improve each year as organisers learn what is needed from apprentices. There was a lot of support given when completing the academic side of the programme but sometimes communicating events and changes was lacking.
I received a lot of support from the training provider and was helped by the tutors when I needed it. I enjoyed my time in the training centre but feel that some more support from JLR directly to the provider could have help with some of the more specialised areas in factory
I receive a lot of support from JLR management and my mentors. If I am struggling with an issue and I am not sure how to resolve it, they will guide me to several solutions.
My salary meets my costs. I have enough to pay for my rent and bills as well as my daily food requirements. The location around factory has affordable housing that is available for rent as well as to buy.
There are lots of opportunities to complete voluntary work within JLR as well as out side. Due to the location there are lots of bus routes as well as trains that give me the choice of what to do when I am not working.
Yes
The apprenticeship is well funded and if you have a drive to learn and understand your environment, you can excel with in the company as well as have opportunities to travel the globe to the other factories.
My advice would be to take your time when filling out your application. Don't panic with the interview process and assessment days, they let you relax before taking your interview and they will encourage you on how to develop your answers.
