  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the Latin America Property claims team based in Chelmsford. On a day to day basis I deal with a number of accounts that have been assinged to me, which helps me learn more about what I should be doing as a claims advocate and benefits my learning of the insurnace industry. Having my own accounts helps me build relationships with people that I work with even though some of them are thousands of miles away, this is something which I enjoy. The team I operate in made me feel very welcome and are always willing to spend time with me to help me further learn and improve my knowledge about the job role. A normal day will consist of speaking with the team I work with in South America and resolving any issues in relation with the accounts I look after. As well as this I also work with and have accounts in US Property too, which has expanded my knowldge further, I reguarly speak and deal with any problems that arise.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My knowledge of the insurance industry has improved emencly, from CII workshops that I attend reguarly to generally working as a claims advocate. Although I still have lots to learn about the industry i feel as though I am heading in the right direction. I believe my communication skills have greatly improved also, mainly due to the fact that I am speaking to professional people on a daily basis. As I mentioned earlier I am studying towards my CII (insurance exam), which has again improved my knowledge of insurnace. Aon pay for me to take my exams and even pay for teachers to come into the office and teach us as well as a bonus when we pass.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My team made me feel very welcome and always try to give me a helping hand whenever possible, this is backed up by Aon's support throughout my apprenticeship programme. Aon is very driven to provide me with what I need to make my career a success and perform to the best of my ability. The social side of working in insurance is also a huge bonus, we reguarly as a team and with the other apprentices go out after work and at lunch for drinks to socialise.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aon?
  • Once again, my team from the start made me feel part of the team, which I believe makes me want to work harder as I am confortable in my team and working environment. Aon offers rewards to top performers in each individual team which spurs people to achieve better. As my knowledge grows, I am more and more feeling like a valued member of the team, this is due to the kind nature of the team and the fact everyone has a key part to play in the running and success of the team.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • From day one the apprenticeship programme was very structured and organised. The first 2 weeks all the apprentices spent together on a training campus, which gave us an insight into what Aon expects from its colleagues and how they operate. From then all apprentices have taken part in events, such as CII workshops to further improve our knowldge of the insurance industry.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Constant support is given to me, however my team is not pushy and let me complete work at my own pace so I do not feel under pressure to perform and make mistakes. Whenever I need help there is always someone next to me to help me sort out any problems I may have.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Me and my manager work with eachother everyday so have a good relationship between us, this makes me feel relaxed so I can work in a comfortable environment. If I have issues that I feel I cannot talk to my team about, I have friends at work I can speak to and even a designated team to help me with any problems. Aon offers constant support, whether for general problem sin the office, even outside the office and my further education.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I am on an apprenticeship programme so did not expect the pay to be huge. However I am earning more money than I thought I would receive from an apprenticeship programme so am happy with my salary. However in the future I anticipate my salary will increase.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Every summer I have been told that Aon contributes to a community day, where everyone go out into the local community and helps with charities or small communties that need it the most. Aon also offers employees the chance to play for its sports teams, these consist of football, netball teams and many more.

  • 9. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have been given opportunties like working in the Leadenhall building, studying for my insurnace exams that I would never of been given if I didn't work for Aon. Aon offers me support at work as well as my team and I am lucky to work in a positive environment were I can work with support which is key for me.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • Apply as soon as you can, I applied in March and was offered the job in April. I know graduation schemes open a lot earlier, the application process is quite long although it was worth it, so stick with it and get it done to the best you can.
