  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a broker back up, this means that I do the processing behind the scenes of a reinsurance contract. I have regular contact with clients and reinsurers helping to make the process of getting reinsured go smoothly.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Everything I have learnt about reinsurance is down to working here. My communication skills have vastly improved as I have had to adapt my style of emails to make them suitable for clients. As well as this my ability on a computer has improved.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • So far I am thoroughly enjoying my programme. I have intergrated well into the team, which is crucial for an enjoyable working life. I am also interested by the work that I am carrying out as it offers such variety. I aim to achieve all of my expectations to the best of my ability as well as making sure I understand exactly what I am doing.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aon?
  • On a big project that took me a few days to complete I got thanked for my contribution by people in my team including my manager. In my annual review I got congratulated on the progress that I have made since I have been here. With Aon helping me through my CII qualifications I feel as though they are investing in me. I have been deligated clients whereby I am involved and my work is valued by the team.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The 2 week introduction was faultless as it built relationships with fellow apprentices whilst we were learning about the profession. Training has come in all different types including learning from organised sessions focused around the CII exams. I have regular catch ups with my manager to give feedback and get feedback on my work. The team are efficient in task delegation as well as fair, spreading it out in equal amounts.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have been offered the oppotunity to learn Japanese. The apprentices have specific CII training days. Support is offered from everyone in the team and everyone is happy to help to the best of their ability.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • By having regular catch ups with my manager I feel as though support is available at my discretion. Having a buddy helped in the first few weeks as I was able to ask as many questions as I wanted to.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • At my stage in life the salary is more than adequate. As well as this Aon provide a season ticket loan which covers the upfront cost and you pay it back in equal monthly installments.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are plenty of company events that you can get involved in. You can also get involved in charity events that come through via email. Before I was working I had a part-time job whilst doing my a-levels.

  • 9. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It's a great company that develops you well offering you support. The apprenticeship program is very well structured and has been a great experience so far.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • Do your research. Keep being yourself and be confident without being arrogant. On the assessment days make sure you present yourself well. Try and get work experience in the industry.
