  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The role at JLR involved carrying out working activities alongside gaining further education. The working side would also be evaluated by a training team to ensure you are developing your skills properly. Other education was done in the form of day release and evening classes at college

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme allows you to take placements in numerous areas within the company. These can be adjusted to suit your final destination and also have some influence from personal preference. The college part is well balanced and modules spread well so as not to be overloaded with work.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Support is provided to a high standard. If support is required on a basic stance or because you are struggling it is always there. Tutors and education staff are easily contactable throughout the week rather than just when in college.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employee provides support on a number of fronts. They consider any requests I have and provide guidance on all levels. I have received good guidance from both my area manager and my training team in the past. There is a very varied team that are more than happy to help, meaning you can get good answers from the most applicable person.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary package on the JLR apprenticeship has easily allowed me to rent accommodation, have my own method of transport, and save plenty of money on the side. The was also the availability of overtime hours to work to boost wages. Additional funding can also be applied for and fuel expenses covered in some cases.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I have attended a number for school visits and trade shows through the company. Aside from this I have also made use of company discounts for tickets and memberships, along with using the company learning fund to do both fun and educational activities in my own time.

  • 9. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel that the apprenticeship caters for a diverse range of people. Anyone has a place here and there are so many varying opportunities within the company that could suit all sorts of different people. I generally find the working conditions and treatment at work are very good, and comparably better than I see people have in a lot of other jobs.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • Psychometric tests are commonly used throughout the company, along with assessment centres. I would encourage people to practice psychometric tests (there are loads that can be done for free online), basic maths and also work on their self presentation and confidence in group work. I would also recommend showing an interest in the products the company produces and to have some knowledge of where the industry is heading. Further to the above I would also recommend practising some situational/ behavioural type questions. Again, examples of these can be easily found on the internet for practice.
