  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Delegated Authority Analyst at Hiscox. My day to day role consists of Coverholder Due Diligence and Lloyd's requests, such as Class of Business requests and Regional extensions. Only a daily basis I have to interact with brokers and the Underwriters so we are happy the Coverholder meets the Lloyd's minimum standards. In my role I also have to communicate with Lloyd's DAT to help push requests through to approval.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes - I feel my communication skills have increased hugely, I am confident to pick up the phone to new people and help with their questions. I have also learnt a lot delegation and the processes which need to be taken to ensure they meet the requirements.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I work with a really friendly team who I get on well with, in and out of work. The company itself is a great place to be and I really like how everyone in the company is on the same page. The whole experience of the apprenticeship has been far better than I imagined, there hasn't been a day (yet) where I haven't wanted to come into work.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Hiscox?
  • Various people come to me on a day to day basis asking questions, and for help when writing binders through Lloyd's, because of this I feel like my role is important and people value my opinion.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I am comfortable with the work I have been given by my training provider, but I think we could have more guidance with our work so we are clearer on what is expected of us.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My team go above and beyond helping me with my work, and giving me the time to study. As well as that they are very supportive in my day to day tasks with any queries I have.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Hiscox paid for my season ticket upfront which was a massive help. We pay this back interest free. I live in London so my expenses are high, but I still have enough money to be social. Considering we are on an entry level scheme I feel the pay is pretty good.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I haven't been here long enough to see all the social events. But the xmas party was very good. During our first week we have a corporate responsibility day which has lead to more activities.

  • 9. Would you recommend Hiscox to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a friendly place to work and I have really enjoyed being here. The company itself is very welcoming and very supportive. I would highly recommend it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hiscox?
  • During the process we had great communication from HR with next steps etc. During our first week we had a day lead by current employees who told us what they wish they knew when joining - this was really helpful. I think during our first few weeks more systems training would of been beneficial as I learnt more on the job.
