  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves supporting two senior corporate credit analysts. On a daily basis I model financial data for both of my managers sectors and have the responsibility of ensuring this is done correctly to the required standard.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have developed my existing personal skills and have gained many professional skills since I began my apprenticeship programme. I have also started working towards the qualifications my apprenticeship offers: the Investment Operations Certificate (IOC) and the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ).

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Every aspect of my programme has been very enjoyable. My team and managers are very approachable and have helped me through my transition of leaving school and beginning work – in this respect, M&G has exceeded all of my expectations.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by M&G?
  • I feel that every task I undertake is appreciated by my managers, especially when I have completed the task to the best of my ability and learn from my mistakes.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well organised. I have the opportunity to participate in various internal and external training courses (which are part of my apprenticeship) and I am given time during my working day to work towards gaining the relevant qualifications.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Every month, I have a meeting with my tutor who guides me on the work I should be completing to gain both qualifications. The meeting takes place at M&G offices and all work is completed independently.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My managers, HR and my mentor are very supportive in helping me reach my potential in my role. I feel very comfortable talking to them and they are always open to giving advice.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary covers all of my expenses per month, with disposable income. This includes my travel (I live outside of London), daily and social expenses.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • M&G offers lots of opportunity for employees to be involved in charity and community work. For example, various sporting events have been held to raise money for charity.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Working for M&G is an amazing opportunity. Being an M&G apprentice has allowed me to begin my career in Investment Management at the age of 18 and has encouraged me to continue working for the company for many more years to come.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to M&G?
  • Don’t fall at the first hurdle! Ensure you practice and revise for the online tests. Also, practice your interview with an experienced professional a number of times before your real interview.
