  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The role varies greatly for each commercial apprentice as the course involves four 6 month placements around the core functions of the business. This covers HR, Marketing, Sales and Supply chain. Currently I work in supply chain and have some project work alongside my day to day work taking customer orders.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • There are many training courses available, some are built into our course and others are optional. Some key ones I have done have been emotional intelligence, political intelligence, insights, coaching,feedback. All of these have been really valuable in supporting my day to day work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have found the work really rewarding and challenging in a way that has stretched me and helped me grow my talents. In terms of team, because I move around often, I get to meet lots of different people and learn which types of individuals I work best with. I feel like my values are also really close to Nestlé's values.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Nestle?
  • Through my project work I get to do activities that add value to the function that I work within. I also feel like I am given lots of opportunities to grow and there is plenty of career support to move up within the business.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • In terms of inductions when we first start there is a two week training program away from the main offices. The first week is to learn more about Nestle and the second is to learn about the University course. However when it comes to the office it is down to the line manager and so here it is dependent on how organised that individual is.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • On the whole the lecturers are fairly easy to get in contact with and the online portal means that course resources are readily available even though I don't live on campus.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There are many different people that I can go to for support if I am facing issues. I have my line manager, Buddy (apprentice from year above), Mentor and Pastoral manager within the academy team.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I have moved away from home for my course and am able to cover all my costs including rent and running a car. I am conscious of my budget but it isn't a source of worry and I feel that as my course is being paid for my wage is very fair.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are fitness classes run on site at work and within my current team there are a lot of social evening planned. Nestle also have a number of tie-ups with charities including Alzheimer Society and Macmillan so this creates volunteering opportunities.

  • 9. Would you recommend Nestle to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • There's a great culture at Nestle with great global career prospects and lots of support to further my career. The pay and benefits are pretty good too.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nestle?
  • Do some research into the company before you attend an assessment day and make sure that you are genuine and present yourself as a good team player. Additionally the company looks for professionalism and initiative so ensure that you display these traits also.
