  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • When I come to work I will go down to my manager, team leader and ask where they are wanting me for the first part of the day. Most of the time I will get put on the till for the start, this will include me working the till to the best standards, giving good customer service and offering any offers. Most of the time when other staff members start I will be put on facing till the end of the day, this includes me pulling all the stock forward and making it look straight. At the end of the day when we are closing I will either be sweeping the floor so it looks clean or checking over facing so it looks presentable.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot within my time as an apprentice such as I will approach customers and help them with their needs, if they have questions I will give my opinion and product knowledge about the products. I also have learned I am a lot quicker at everything I do now and can be consistent at the jobs I get given. I am developing more everyday as I can only get better.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed it as it has helped me become more confident and approachable in myself as I will now come into work and ask to do a job and do it to a good expectation. It has also helped me interpret the work from the book into everyday work life as it makes you think at what you should do oe already do. It has also helped me get more involved into tasks I wouldn't normally do.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Superdrug?
  • I feel like I am valued as a important team member as everyone treats me with respect and gives me advise and help if I'm needing it. I feel like because I have done the apprenticeship more time has been spent on me to do well and succed. This is because I have lots of training on how to do certain things such as use the gun' do tester orders, do picking lists. I feel as though they have made me into a good team member.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is we'll organised as when you have your first meeting you get told how it works and what will be completed at the end. In that meeting you will get set your first piece of work that the assessor will come in and check. They will come in each month to check on everything you have done and give you feedback, you also get a manager or team leader checking on you to make sure your work is being completed and if they need to do anything with you. I think it is very well organised and structered.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have received quite a lot of support from my training provider as she had took her time to sit down and help me with my work when I have been struggling, she has been supportive even when Ive had my off days and not felt good. I have always struggled with maths and she was helpful and patient to help me come out my shell with it. Every time I have sat a test she would go over bits I wasn't sure on before I started. She always makes sure my work was done to my best and compliment me on when I have.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received quite a lot of support from both my manager and assistant manager as they have both took they're own time to see if I need help, both have sat down with me and helped me on my problems, but also did their parts in my work that they needed to do. They have always given me my hour to do my work book. They have both looked after me and my work that needed completing.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It has been okay, I have managed to fund for phone bills, board and puss passes bit nothing to the extent of really saving a lot. As I am young it doesn't matter as much as someone older but it would of been better if I got a bit more. However I can't complain as I have managed to do things that I want so I'd say it's been manageable.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I would say yes and no as sometimes it is very hard to jobs and for people to want to take you on with not millions of experience. However many places will give you opportunities such as places with apprenticeships in if you are willing to make the effort. I think it does give you your first stepping stone into more and newer opportunities.

  • 9. Would you recommend Superdrug to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would reccomend it as you learn new parts of the job everyday, such as cosmetics you will get a lot of product knowledge from this on the hub and training, majority of the things you need to know on the product knowledge part is on the hub so it's very easy to access. The team will also take you under their wings and teach/train you on everything you need to do in every basis of the store, most of the time you can have a laugh and a joke while working which I think is refreshing. I think the store itself is good to work for as everyone will help.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Superdrug?
  • I would say just act yourself and your personality will shine through, be prepared to be given to show if you can actively sell but try not to show that your scared, just go for it as you don't know what people's answers will be. Be prepared to answer questions such as working in a team or sceneorios. If you are passionate about something such as makeup make sure they know that so they know you can work in certain areas. Make sure you smile and talk clearly, just go for it in the interview or when your applying.
